The Latinx/e In Social Work Podcast
Navigating Parenthood with Grace and Empathy | Aurora Cruz, LCSW
Join me in this enlightening episode where we delve into the life and career of Aurora Cruz, a devoted social worker with a special focus on children and families.
Aurora shares candidly about her journey into social work, fuelled by her innate love for children, and how it has shaped her into a better parent. She opens up about the importance of empathy, patience, and grace in parenting, and how viewing things from a child's perspective can guide us in better understanding and addressing our shortcomings.
Aurora also sheds light on managing frustration, the often-unsung struggle of social workers, and the importance of keeping work stress separate from family life. Hear her insights on the significance of apologizing to children, and her unique 'circle of trust' concept. Above all, learn how her Latina roots intertwine with her parenting approach, promoting a culture of unconditional love.
More about Aurora:
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who has been working with children and families for 20 plus years. In my undergraduate degree I was trained in Early Childhood Education, at City College. In my graduate program, my area of expertise was Clinical practice with Children and Families.
I have worked inside the classroom as a teacher, in an office as a family therapist, and my most important role where I have received the best training has been as a Mom.
As a Parenting Coach, my focus is not on perfection, but on how to engage in the art of imperfection, AND BOUNCE BACK... Making mistakes and moving forward, in a way that feels positive, healthy and motivational for you and your family.
